Alcudia Reminds of the Medieval Times

The original name of the town was Al Kudia, which means “on the hills”. This name was suggested by the Moors when they invaded the town and made a fortress on top of hill and the modern name of the town is based on that. It is an important town in the history of both Spain and Europe. Different nations besieged the town many times in history because it had importance for all, for variable reasons.

The Romans, Phoenicians, Moors and Christians, all ruled the area. That reveals the history and importance of the town. The town is located in the north eastern end of Balearic Island of Mallorca. It has a wonderful location because it splits two large sheltered bays. The town has a great strategic location and thus it was a source of admiration for all the nations conquering and ruling it.

There have been developments in the area in different eras. The Phoenicians were the first ones to settle in the area of Alcudia. Romans built their capital of the island at this place with the name of Pollentia. During their times, the Vandals destroyed the town. In the 9th century, in this area, Muslims created a fortress on the hill. It was recaptured later and it remained an important trading town for many centuries.

In the medieval times, they created a wall in the town. That wall is of great historical importance and the Spanish authorities have maintained it well. Visitors from all around the world visit this place just to have a view of this historical wall. Apart from that, there are antique lanes in the town, fortified gates of the town walls, remains of Roman Pollentia and many other things that are worth seeing.

Alcudia is a popular tourist destination in Europe for many reasons. Visitors of all age groups love to visit this small town. The bay area of the town is five kilometers long, which makes it more interesting. The visitors prefer and enjoy boating in this area of Spain.

There is an island near Alcudia, visited by people on boats. It is named as Formentor and it has some stunning beaches on it. Alcudia has a lovely seafront and it is famous for all kinds of water sports. Many visitors specially visit the town for scuba diving and banana rides. That makes the place more amusing for visitors from different parts of the world.
